I must first apologise for the attention grabbing headline, as this event was first reported by the Northern Echo on August 13th 1929
The damage to the walls (which have long since gone) has been caused by the underground ironstone workings
Here’s a similar view today with a lot of tree growth since 1929.
The mine abandonment plan reveals the reasons for problem, the road i’ve highlighted in red, the area to the bottom right with the thick border and cross-hatched pillars has been goafed, the roof will have collapsed and the ground about 100m above subsided. The tell-tale sign being the year “1930” (circled in green) marked in that area for when mining ended there.

you say the wall has long gone, but it hasn’t it is still there if you go through the gate just above the farm you will find it access is legal its a bride way
