Timeline
- 1864 – Used by Bell Brothers to give a route for stone from Skelton Old Shaft
- 1874 – Gjers Mill and Company lease 20 more acres from Mr Wharton
- 1879 – Collapse under the railway mine nearly causes train accident.
- 1883 – 20 acres of Wharton ironstone completely worked out.
- 1886 – Mine closes, 70 men paid off.
Known locally as “Branch Mine” due to its entrance under the railway
