This miners payslip from 26th October 1889 was recently shared with me by Howard Wilson of the Skelton History Group, it’s for a William Butters who originated from Tattersall Lincolnshire before coming to New Marske to be an Ironstone Miner. Ruston Hornsby Loco at North Skelton

Ruston and Hornsby model LBU’s first appeared in Cleveland at Kilton Mine in 1952 to replace horses. By September 1954 the last horses had also left North Skelton, where these photos were taken in 1958. These photos appear to show a later modification to add a compressed air powered starter to an engine.
