We have recently complete this 3D model of the magnificent Grade II listed, fanhouse at Skelton Shaft mine.
Originally designed for an 1870 Guibal fan and adapted for a Sirocco fan in 1930.
Note, this is not a public site and permission to visit was obtained from Skelton and Gilling Estates.
Hi Chris – could you please explain how the air was drawn from the mine and into the fan impeller? It’s not clear how this would have connected to ventilate the mine itself
There a mine shaft immediately next to the building.

The air come up the shaft and goes into the hole in the middle of the fan
Then getting pushed up the chimney, there would have been a casing around the fan, but that’s been removed too when it was scrapped.
